Understand preferences and compare options. Respondents select their preferences based on either a ranking system or on how strongly they might agree to a particular statement.
There are quite a few options for rating and ranking within ex-plor these include:
Everyone knows and understands a star rating system, but each respondent has their own interpretation of what a 4 star experience would be. There will always be some degree of ambiguity on the scale. Try and indicate beyond terms like ‘strongly agree’ as to what the scale represents.
If you’re on the hunt for answers around emotions or sentiment, instead of using a numbers or star based system…why not use emojis?
Keep the number of options low. Most people can choose their top three and bottom three options, but options in the middle may be unreliable.
Be wary of including too many grid questions in your survey; it can become tedious for the respondent and will result in poor quality. Even though you can try presenting grid questions in a variety of formats, your respondents will soon see through it!
Bear in mind that certain formats do work better on different platforms. As an example, drag and drop questions are easier for respondents who are using desktop computers than on a smartphone. The ex-plor platform does address is and will present an optimised format for whatever device the respondent is using.
Variety is the spice of life and wherever possible you should try and use a mix of different question types to keep any survey engaging!
